OUR MINISTRIES
The Laymen’s Ministry
PURPOSE: To offer the opportunity to enhance laymen’s relationship with God through fellowship, Bible study, intercessory prayer, evangelism and service.
MINISTRY FOCUS: Bible Study and Intercessory Prayer Ministry, Family Ministry, Devotional Ministry, Worship Facilitation Ministry and Outreach Ministry.
Ushers Ministry
GOAL: To serve the church in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by providing service and direction comfortably for the pastor and congregation.
PLAN OF ACTION: Ushers will be present at all church functions. They will be motivated with the spirit of evangelism and exemplify the Born Again degree.
Music Ministry
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
To serve to the glory of God
To help others hear, see and feel the power of God through music.
To support the program of the church.
To attend other churches and community activities when called upon, providing the Abyssinian church calendar is open.
To improve rehearsal attendance.
To develop their programs and activities in such a manner that the goals of the church and Pastor are met. Increase choir membership.
Combined Mission Ministry
PURPOSE: To promote Christian mission through a program of Mission Study, Prayer, Community Mission, and Stewardship.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
• To reach every member of the church through Christian love, assistance,concern, programs, visitation, the mail, the telephone, and announcements.
• To provide service to the needy, sick, shut-in and bereaved members of the church and community.
• Hold mission study workshops, retreats, and bible studies.
• Seasonal acts of benevolence during Christmas and Thanksgiving.
• Support the Unions, Associations, State and national Conventions, and World Day of Prayer.
• Distribute missionary literature and other inspirational reading materials in the church and community.
• Visit the sick and shut-in, and send get-well cards and sympathy cards.
• Extend services to the shut-in by bringing them to church or by taking the church to them.
• Make mission meaningful to all, especially to men in the church.
 Daughters and Sons of Abyssinian
Mission Statement: The Sons and Daughters ministry has a vision to carry out the Lord’s work by assisting in, and around our community by stretching out our hands and hearts to our senior citizens both in and out of the Christian community. They will visit the sick and shut in Senior members of the church that may live in senior citizens homes or assisted living facilities who just need encouraging or some one to read to them.
This ministry will send our cards for all occasions once a month. We will also assist in helping those seniors who have experienced a devastating time in their lives by helping them to rebuild their hopes and break the cycle of hopelessness through prayer.
This ministry’s main goal has been to network with our medical sites and other resourceful contacts to help our seniors to reach the proper sources to obtain and discounts available to them through their Prescription Drugs Plans.
With God’s help and many prayers, this ministry will continue to stretch their hands to help others.
Deaconess Ministry
The Deaconesses ministry shall strive to encourage the spiritual growth of the Church. They shall always seek the salvation of the lost, and encourage people who are hurting and in need of hope. They shall present themselves as holy women, and examples to the younger women with all purity.
Nurses Ministry
The Nurses Ministry shall serve as a helping ministry. They will attend to the medical needs of the congregation during all worship services. One Nurse shall be assigned to the pastor at all worship services at Abyssinian and away. The assigned nurse shall check with the pastor before leaving for the day.
Youth Ministry
The youth department is a vital part of this church and it’s ministry. The youth are a part of the church today, and must be trained now to lead the church tomorrow. We will prepare the youth of this church in the following ways:
• The church will provide an institute for youth department every second Saturday in every month. The purpose of the institute is to provide the youth of this church with intensive training and education in the area of Christian Education as well as secular education. To provide them with the foundation and knowledge needed to live a productive and rewarding Christian life. We will teach them accountability for what they do or do not do in life and consequence of their behavior.
• The youth will be in charge of worship services every second Sunday. They will assist it pastor in planning the worship service.
• The youth with the pastor, will plan a youth revival in the month of June. The preacher for the revival will be selected by the pastor.
Clara Will Gray Scholarship
The primary mission of the Clara Will Gray Scholarship Fund is to provide assistance to students who are members of the Abyssinian Baptist Church.
Women’s Ministry - Women of Purpose
The Purpose Driven Women, in our own rights will focus on Building each Sister. Within our core group, we will have small groups under the leadership of The “Sisters Building Sisters” outreach internally and externally.
We will strive to excel in the vision of the church. To that end, we will focus on becoming a ministry that will demonstrate love to our fellow sisters. We must be a ministry where the grace of God can be manifested in the lives of our people.
As each Sister, under the Lordship of Christ, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit build another Sister we will focus on “Growth”, “Worship”, “Service”, and “Connection” collectively amongst Ourselves, the Church, and Community. Keeping these four purposes in balance, we will build both healthy mature Christian Women and a healthy, Christ exalting Church that glorifies God.
Deacon’s Ministry
The mission of the Deacon’s Ministry is to assist the Pastor in meeting the needs of the congregation and the community in which the Holy Spirit has deemed us to serve.
Trustee Ministry 
The mission of the Trustee Ministry is threefold:
First is to receive, deposit, manage and distribute the monies that have been entrusted to them by the church.
Secondly, to review monitor, inspect, maintain and repair church property, and keep everything in working order.
Thirdly, the trustee ministry must make itself available to assist other ministries when asked.
